Somewhere in DC – On select Tuesdays, I thought it might be nice to cut through all the Trump spin and Washington BS and translate what’s really going on. When I worked for a large corporation, I habitually took corporate announcements and pared them down to what it truly said. It went like this: First, cut out any marketing words; second, cut out any buzz words. That will cut down most by two-thirds. Then look at what’s left, and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what is being said.
So, let’s do that with that short description above and see what it tells us. It was crafted to distract you from what it truly is. Trump often does this with things that would be unpopular if left unvarnished. So, eliminate “beautiful” because that’s a marketing word. Okay. It’s a Big Bill. Big means they are trying to cram a lot of crap into it. Why, you might wonder, if you are paying attention? The answer is to overwhelm you with so much BS that you can’t pay attention to the individual parts.
Now, because Americans are so busy, or some might say have a short attention span, I will take the main thrust of the purpose of the Big Beast of a Bill. The primary objective is to make Trump’s tax cut permanent because he promised his billionaire buddies. But actually, screw them, he does it for himself, but they did get him elected so he’ll share.
Here’s the real result: It will increase the deficit by $4 trillion (you know, that thing Republicans pretend to hate, and are trying to eliminate.)
Why would republicans do that? To give $4.5 trillion in tax cuts (To whom, you may ask if you’re paying attention? 50% of it would go to the top 5% of income earners – making $450K)
How did they save the half trillion? By cutting food assistance for poor people and throwing over 70 million people off Medicaid (because they are fighting for you!)
Sounds more like a Fatcat Kickback Bill, or a Kick the Little Guy While He’s Down Bill
